Chesapeake Cottages are Named After Trees

Why are all of our Chesapeake Cottages named after trees? This was for several reasons. First, trees are beautiful, integral to our existence, and help sustain our planet. These are all positive things to bring to mind as you look at our designs. So, we are hoping you can appreciate our aesthetics, recognize the importance of our designs as efficient and effective means of shelter, and easily identify our Cottages as sustainable construction. In short, we’d like to create a positive intellectual connection to our Cottages.

Secondly, because traditional neighborhoods always had shady, tree-lined streets, we also want our Cottages to bring that image to mind. Traditional Neighborhood Design is an old idea that we are coming back to for a good reason. That is, to get us back to a place where people are not only connecting with the outdoors but with each other, as families and as part of a community. Our Cottages are designed to work within such a community, with smaller lots and setbacks, and more trees. Where cars are not the most visible feature, and pedestrians are easily able to converse with residents. We’d like you to connect our Cottages with a lifestyle where these things are important.

And third, we hope that when you look through our catalog of models, we can bring back a good memory from your past. Maybe the Dogwood, the Mimosa, or one of the others will remind you of a tree you used to climb as a child. Or a tree with a tire swing that your children have played on. Or a tree that you planted in memory of someone you loved. This is an emotional connection to one of our Cottages that we’d like to achieve.

So, why are all of our Chesapeake Cottages named after trees?

Because trees are not only important to our existence, they are part of the fabric of all of our lives – past, present, and future. Likewise, our homes should respect the past, live in the present, and work well in the future. They should be what both your head and heart want, as well as what your family and community need. A home should be a place where we can live our lives positively, and make new memories. And homes are what our Cottages are designed to be.
